Chiari i Malformation in Patients with Pfeiffer Syndrome: important Aspects of Preoperative imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
Chiari I malformation may not be congenital, but may be acquired as a consequence of skull deformities and other associated intracranial factors in patients with craniosynostosis. Pfeiffer syndrome is one of the many conditions associated with Chiari I malformation. Premature fusion of multiple cranial sutures and cloverleaf skull (kleeblattschädel deformity) are often observed in the calvaria of patients with Pfeiffer syndrome. This report is of a male infant, with Pfeiffer syndrome who was noted to have progressive Chiari I malformation, with classical imaging features illustrated. Important aspects of preoperative imaging will be discussed, with a brief review of literature.

Chiari I Malformation with Acute Brain Stem Compression Syndromes Requiring Emergency Neurosurgical Intervention: Report of Two Cases
While Chiari I malformation is a relatively common finding on MRI imaging, the vast majority of patients are asymptomatic and those who do present typically follow a slow course of chronic or subacute progression of symptoms. Emergent deterioration of existing Chiari malformation is rare. We present two patients with previously undiagnosed Chiari I malformation presenting with acute deteriorati...

RATIONALE Chiari type I malformation (CM1) and occult tethered cord syndrome (OTCS) are considered to be malformations associated with subtle structural abnormalities of the terminal filum. Few studies have reported patients with CM1 and OTCS. Treatment strategy for patients of CM1 associated with OTCS is controversial. PATIENT CONCERNS A 14-year-old child was admitted with intermittent pain ...

AIM To define the role of phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in deciding the therapeutic strategy and underlying pathophysiology resulting in syrinx formation in patients with Chiari type 0 malformation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seven patients who were admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of Chiari 0 malformation from January 2005 to July 2016 were enrolled in the study. Al...
متن کاملChiari I malformation and neurofibromatosis type 1.
Single case reports exist in the medical literature of patients with tonsillar ectopia, i.e., the Chiari I malformation and neurofibromatosis type 1. However, large series of patients with either of these entities have not been examined for the presence of both defects. We have retrospectively examined two large groups of pediatric patients: Group I, with the primary diagnosis of Chiari I malfo...
متن کاملMR imaging of Chiari II malformation.
High-field-strength MR imaging was performed in one patient with Chiari III and 19 patients with Chiari II malformations. The MR features were compared with descriptions in the literature and correlated with previously described surgical and postmortem findings and with the results of previous radiologic investigations in this group of patients. Several new observations were apparent from the M...
